At a young age, Maya developed a curiosity for the mind-body connection and natural alternatives to health. In 1998, she stepped into her first Kundalini yoga class sparking a yoga and meditation practice lasting over 20 years.  In 2001, she earned her Certification in Massage Therapy and practiced as a Licensed Massage Therapist for the next 15 years. As her knowledge grew, so did her love for Eastern medicine.

In 2013, Maya completed her Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Emperors College in Santa Monica. In 2016, Maya became a doctoral fellow at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego where she dedicated two years to acupuncture research.  She completed her dissertation and received her Doctor of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree in 2018.

She has worked in various health-conscious establishments and medical clinics with leading doctors specializing in chronic disease and diagnostics. For 8 years Maya mentored under Dr. Hua Bing Wen, an oncology specialist and renowned master of herbal medicine. In 2018, she completed a 16-month apprenticeship under the supervision of Dr. Yvonne Farrell, in the treatment of psycho-emotional pain.
